Specialist Task Force 384:
Coexistence VDSL2 – PLC
Who we are:
Team Leader: Antonio Jiménez de Parga
Team Members: Philippe Gay
Nicolas Dangy-Caye
What we do:
The STF will analyze the data collected during the VDSL2 – PLC
Plugtest performed in June 2009 in order to produce
a theoretical model of the coupling between electrical wires and telephone
wires. Additionally, the STF will elaborate a set of recommendations and
algorithms to avoid or minimise the signal coupling from one medium to another.
The
STF will produce a Final Report which for delivery to the PLT Group and three
progress reports:
- Progress
report for Phase 1. Channel modelling and coupling.
- Progress
report for Phase 2. Simulations and selection of algorithms for coexistence.
- Progress
report for Phase 3. PLT implementation of coexistence algorithms.
- DTR/PLT-0020: Final report on VDSL2 – PLC coexistence.

Why we do it:
The next generation of broadband access services is expected to use VDSL2. Since
VDSL2 and PLC use the same frequency band, some telecom operators have raised
concerns that there could be mutual interference between both systems.
This work is useful not only for current PLC technologies but also for future
G.hn based systems.
The goal is to develop a set of recommendations and algorithms to avoid or
minimize the interference.
