Testing Task Force T018:
Requirements & Protocols for a Test Tool Interface for the SSP

Who we are:

TTF leader:
  • Arne Marquordt,  COMPRION GmbH, amarquordt@comprion.com
TTF team:
  • Andras Talas, COMPRION GmbH, atalas@comprion.com
  • Alain Rhelimi, MELLONNE Consulting, alain.rhelimi@mellonne.com

What we do

The TTF T018 develops a specification for a Test Tool Interface as needed to operate tests for Smart Secure Platform (SSP) implementations in accordance to ETSI TS 103 999-1 and ETSI TS 103 999-2.
The initial task will be the analysis of legacy test interfaces/connections where the team sees an opportunity to re-use existing methods to expose the interface for testing without violating the security requirements implied in the SSP.
Based on requirements from TS103 999-1, TS 103 999-2 and inherited needs from GP’s VPP specifications the Test Tool Interface shall be defined including the following objectives:
•    Definition of the test tool interface protocol upper layers (i.e., above an agnostic transport layer),
•    The application layer as the set of commands, events and responses required to verify test requirements,
•    The presentation layer (e.g., ASN.1, JSON),
•    The session layer (e.g., secure, or not secure),
•    Selection of the main transport layers,
•    Definition of the main transport layers (e.g., TCP/IP) including their binding with SSP test tool interface upper layers
•    Test descriptions for the testing of the test tool interface.

Why we do it

In TTF-T001 SSP test specifications for SSP were created. An essential component in the test environment defined in TS 103 999-1 and TS 103 999-2 is the Test Tool Interface.
A common Test Tool Interface shall be established, offering a feasible solution, widely accepted by users and implementers of the ETSI SSP to avoid fragmentation.
TTF-T018 is built from former members of TTF-T001, keen to specify a common solution for a Test Tool Interface.

How we do it

The TTF-T018 is using a hybrid project management approach to fulfil the tasks and to ensure that the deliverables are available in time.
Due to the small team size it is possible to split work in a way that personal preferences and strengths can appropriately be taken into consideration. The substantial work is intended to be evenly split between the two attending companies. Weekly status meetings are held to present results to the rest of the group, review ongoing and ended tasks, align tasks and verify their status.
The TTF leader will be acting as the editor of the two deliverables and present the progress of the TTF work to SET TEST and in the SET plenary.
Accompanying the ‘regular’ TTF work the team members are encouraged to contact potential users of the later Test Tool Interface to permanently validate the usability of the selected approach and to reassess it when needed.
