Specialist Task Force 339: Test update for New Generation DECT
Who we are:
Team Leader:
Angel Boveda
What we do:
DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless
Telecommunications) is one of the very successful
ETSI standards. With more than 300 million DECT devices in the market, DECT is
the world wide leading technology for cordless telephony on both, residential
and business (PABX) scenarios.
DECT is one of the IMT-2000
technologies and has worldwide market (including the U.S. since 2005).
ETSI TC DECT and STF 339 are currently
developing the New Generation DECT, a further evolution of the standard,
introducing new advanced features such as High quality wideband (7 kHz) and
superwideband (14 kHz) voice, support of internet telephony, and broadband data
connections.
DECT New Generation is based on the
mature and reliable DECT technology and will be back-compatible with current
DECT devices.
STF 339 is in charge of the developing
of the first set of Test standards for New Generation DECT. This set
includes the creation of the basic regulatory radio test standards,
including the basic radio testing specification, EN 300 176-1, the DECT
“Harmonized Standard” EN 301 406, and the “Harmonized Standard” for IMT-2000,
EN 301 908-10.
STF 339 will also create the PICS
proforma standards, the first step in the developing of the conformance
testing specification set.
All these specifications will be based
on previous versions used by the existing DECT standard.
Why we do it:
The DECT manufacturers including the
chip manufacturers have come to the conclusion that the evolution in Internet
and Telecom areas creates the opportunity for a new generation Cordless
standard, taking fully advantage of the convergence Internet/Telecom..
The DECT Forum has approached TC DECT
to develop the specification for next generation DECT products, based on the
market requirements as provided by DECT Forum. They also stressed the urgency of
the work and therefore we agreed to develop the specification in phases and
selected the features to be realized in each of them.
The new generation DECT will not only
further increase the technical performance, but also the value of the DECT
products.
The basic regulatory radio test
standards are compulsory due to regulatory reasons. In the case of New
Generation DECT, they will consist on three specifications, the basic radio test
specification EN 300 176-1, the “Harmonized Standard” EN 301 406, and the
“Harmonized Standard” for IMT-2000: EN 301 908-10
The PICS proforma are the first step in
the developing of conformance testing standards. They identify and individualize
the testable items. The PICS proforma will be also used by the manufacturers to
declare the compliance of their products to the New Generation DECT standard.
