TC ATTM Working Group TM 6 Terms of Reference

TC ATTM Working Group TM6 is responsible for digital access transmission systems on metallic infrastructures, including but not limited to balanced wired (twisted pair) and coaxial cables, with emphasis on maximizing the reuse and optimization of existing network infrastructures and support systems. The Working Group will produce within their scope:

  • Specification of functional and physical characteristics of signals and interfaces on the physical line and at the network and user side, including considerations for legacy infrastructure adaptation and reuse
  • Frequency and spectrum management of bands allocated to these systems, optimizing utilization of existing spectral resources
  • Specification of filters, splitters, and coupling devices, including solutions that enable infrastructure sharing and backward compatibility
  • Compatibility and co-existence studies between legacy services (POTS/PSTN/CATV) and other technologies, particularly those sharing the same infrastructure, with focus on migration strategies that preserve existing investments
  • Specification of common testing methodology for metallic transmission systems, including assessment criteria for existing infrastructure suitability and reuse potential
  • Development of guidelines and best practices for repurposing existing metallic infrastructures for current and emerging broadband access technologies
  • Evaluation and standardization of transition mechanisms that enable infrastructure modernization while maintaining service continuity
