TC AT Working Group NGN@Home
Terms of Reference
WG NGN@Home is that part of TC AT responsible for deliverables relating to
Next Generation Networks [NGN] in the Home environment.
WG NGN@Home recognises that certain elements in this area may also be
included in or related to the responsibilities of other TB’s or WG’s, both
within and outside of ETSI. The group will co-operate with all such relevant
identified Bodies and Groups and will offer its specific expertise and take the
best advantage of others’ expertise.
To differentiate between the home access and the network access, this WG will
cover the Home Access Network, which for this purpose may be regarded as the
network, which enables the various communications devices within the home to
communicate with each other and with the outside world. The WG will refer to
existing Network Access technologies already defined or to be defined by ETSI
and ITU-T documents, therefore it will be possible to use any physical carrier
that supports the capabilities required for carriage of Home Network Services
and Applications. This group will cover the characteristics and functionality of
devices on the Internet that may use the various access networks to transport
information across the Home Access Network to the end devices on the Home Local
Network.
WG NGN@Home will act as a focal point within TC AT for matters concerning
terminals to support current and next generation services for home networking
and the home hub device architecture for current and future technologies and
applications. It will cover the study of new applications in the home as well as
various in house hub technologies, devices, components developed by various
standards bodies and fora, thus facilitating interoperability between the
various Home Network end devices and various home hub technologies. The WG will
provide a standardised approach to Next Generation Networks at Home and in home
intelligent device technologies. The WG will facilitate and prioritize the
organisation of the work to be done in the emerging technologies.
TC AT WG NGN@Home is responsible for the increasing participation and
awareness of AT experts in ETSI NGN Home Networking areas, including production
and maintenance of ETSI deliverables in Next Generation Home Local Network
technologies, for example:
- NGN in the home environment,
1. Delivery of Services to the devices in the home across a home hub device,
2. Connectivity between devices in the home across a home hub delivery device,
- Interworking and compatibility studies between Home Network components,
- Study of in-home features and services for NGN,
- Components and functions of the delivery gateway device to utilize the
addressing, management, protocols and connectivity, QoS and service planes for
the support of various in house applications to ensure reliable delivery of
services from a Home Access Network to the end devices within the Home Local
Network.
The following are additional activities that will be undertaken by TC AT WG
NGN@Home:
- Contribute to the global usage of standards in the scope of the WG,
- Support and co-ordinate within TC AT the development of a consistent
approach to standardisation of emerging technologies and services with a view
towards producing global standards.
