Terms of Reference for TISPAN WG2
(Competence centre for Next Generation Network
Services, Requirements and Architecture)
TISPAN WG2 is responsible for:
·
Standards development activities related to NGN
Services, Requirements and Architecture, and their evolution:
-
Conducting studies leading to deliverables on next generation
services and applications (from the user perspective), and co-ordination
and preparation of service descriptions for NGN
-
Conducting studies leading to deliverables on next generation
functional and architectural requirements both from user and network
perspective
-
Conducting studies leading to deliverables on next generation
architecture as far as control aspects are concerned
·
Coordination of NGN Services, Requirements and
Architecture,
·
Where an IP Multimedia Subsystem is referenced,
ensuring alignment with the Common IMS specified within 3GPP.
·
Service and Network inter-working and IP
interconnection at the service, control and transport level,
including but not limited to NGNs, Next
Generation Corporate Networks (NGCNs), and next generation Customer Premises
Networks (CPNs).
·
NGN Multimedia services and architecture, including
IPTV.
·
Studies in the field of NGN mobility, including
inter-working with existing and emerging IP-based Core Networks, which are
beyond the exclusive scope of 3GPP. This includes Inter-access-system
inter-operability, mobility and registration.
Activities:
·
Standardization of NGN service descriptions from the user perspective
·
Study the evolution of the NGN network architecture,
motivated by new market requirements and considering new and emerging
technologies
·
Identification of generic functional capabilities
required to develop a service independent architecture and definition of
appropriate terminology
·
Definition of functional architectures, taking into
account related developments in standards for fixed and mobile networks to
enable service and network convergence, as appropriate
·
Definition and analysis of Functional Entities,
Message Flows and Information Elements Identification of the need for reference
points and standardised interfaces
·
Analysis and comparison of interface requirements,
including the impact on already standardised interfaces
·
Development of requirements in the areas of work,
including: architectural work; Security (coordinated with TISPAN WG7) Quality
guarantees, network mechanisms and network aspects for both personal and
terminal mobility/nomadicity
·
Study of the impact of inter-working between similar
and dissimilar NGNs that are evolving independently. Identification of the need
for functional entities and reference points to support needed interfaces and
protocols
·
Consideration of mechanisms necessary to ensure
proper interaction between services
·
Monitor, support, and influence the work on services
and architectures in other bodies
Collaboration with other bodies (both
inside and outside ETSI)
·
Cooperation with other ETSI Technical Bodies and
Working Groups.
·
Cooperation with other appropriate bodies, taking
into account the status of ETSI’s external relations.
