Technical Committee on Human Factors - Guidelines for real-time communication services
Internet and Packet loss
IP is mainly:
- TCP-IP (Transmission Control Protocol) – for surfing, e-mail and gaming,
- UDP-IP (User Datagram Protocol) – for real-time person-to-person communication.
UDP-IP:
- Send packets only once,
- Has a shorter delay than TCP-IP,
- Data may be corrupted or lost at arrival.
