Internet and Packet loss

IP is mainly:

  • TCP-IP (Transmission Control Protocol) – for surfing, e-mail and gaming,
  • UDP-IP (User Datagram Protocol) – for real-time person-to-person communication.

UDP-IP:

  • Send packets only once,
  • Has a shorter delay than TCP-IP,
  • Data may be corrupted or lost at arrival.
