Heterogeneous transcoding may have vital consequences for the overall transmission delay, the media quality and reliability of a communication service.
It is therefore important that the issues that may arise are taken into account by persons responsible for providing services and equipment to end users. ETSI recommends that transcoding is avoided when possible.
