Terms of Reference (ToR) for
ETSI TC M2M
Management Working Group (WG5)
Text under discussion – to be approved at
M2M#15bis
Responsibility
The
Management WG of ETSI TC M2M is responsible for:
-
Defining and specifying
a generic management model for ETSI M2M Devices, Gateway
and Core
(D/G/C) that allows relevant management
authorities to perform management tasks.
-
Contributing to ETSI TC
M2M Technical Specifications and Reports on architecture and
data/information modeling related to M2M management.
-
Collaboration with
external SDOs and fora on M2M management issues (e.g. to enable
re-use of existing management capabilities).
Tasks
The main tasks of M2M Management WG are:
- Specify an Information Model within the
common ETSI M2M data / functional framework for management
functions of D/G/C. The Information Model for M2M Management
needs to:
- support simple management
functions for D/G/C that are common to many of
these entities (e.g. firmware update)
- be extensible to support
more specialized management functions (e.g. in
order to re-use existing management systems
within ETSI M2M)
- allow for higher,
aggregated or more complex management functions
- enable management of data
of the ETSI M2M framework (e.g. SCL related
data)
- Specify functional requirements on
entities in the ETSI M2M architecture to carry out M2M
management functions. This may include:
- Mapping onto functional
entities of other existing management systems if
these are re-used within ETSI M2M (e.g. OMA DM,
BBF TR-069)
- Keep a close contact and collaborate with
external SDOs and fora who specify management systems that have
been agreed to be re-used in ETSI M2M (e.g. those that are
commonly used in the industry)
- Create, structure and maintain
specifications on M2M management in a way that enables
consistency with - yet to a high extent independence from -
specification work in related external SDOs and fora.
Organization and working methods
The Management WG of ETSI TC M2M meets at TC M2M Plenary
meetings.
If needed additional physical or virtual (e.g. conference
calls) ad-hoc meetings may be organized. Such additional meetings need to be
agreed by TC M2M Plenary.
Electronic work to advance topics and documents for the
discussion in a WG meeting is encouraged.
