Title Multiple Access Techniques (MAT); Spectral efficiency enhancements for NTN

Scope and Field
of Application
6GR targets harmonised design for TN and NTN: RP-251881(6GR WID), R1-2506327 (Satellite industry’s views). Spectral efficiency is a key requirements for 6GR and NTN systems: RP-251881(6GR WID), R1-2506394 (Operator’s views).

The scope of this work item is on multiple access techniques to increase spectral efficiency in NTN systems. Areas of interest are: inter-beam interference management techniques; MU-MIMO/SU-MIMO techniques for NTN; mixed unicast-multicast and multi-group multicast transmissions; and considering NTN channel characteristics and impairments.

The work will start by a call for relevant use cases involving satellite industry. After use case prioritisation, the work will focus on the technical aspects and feasibility of candidate multiple access techniques. Candidate techniques will be compared with techniques specified in 3GPP 5G NR NTN.
