Title EE Power Supply (EE); Guidelines of safety applications for lithium iron phosphate battery in data centres
Safety applications for lithium iron phosphate battery in data centres (TA-ITU:L.safe)
Scope and Field
of Application
Defines a practical, data-centre-oriented framework for the safe application of lithium-ion batteries with emphasis on LFP chemistry. It is intended for both new build and retrofit facilities and for typical deployment modes used by data centres. The objective is to support resilient operations while reducing fire, off-gas and business-interruption risks in a consistent and replicable way across regions.

This item focuses on high-level criteria and practices rather than detailed system design. It covers: (i) selection criteria for LFP batteries in data-centre use; intrinsic safety requirements; (ii) equipment-room design measures (including layout, suppression, ventilation/smoke control, thermal-runaway detection); (iii) pre-operations safety (transport, temporary storage, installation and commissioning); (iv) operation and maintenance; emergency management; and (v) end-of-life safety. This document provide baseline guidance for safely using LFP in data centre. A set of informative appendices may offer technology-neutral templates and examples of best practice to facilitate adoption.”
