Title |
Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) Release 6; Evolution and Ecosystem; Report on latency aspects and new communication technologies for NFV Report_Detnet_NFV |
||||||
Scope and Field of Application |
This work item will study aspects about enabling in the NFV framework support for time-sensitive/deterministic communication-aware VNFs. Specific aspects of investigation are related to a) the operation and management of NFV-based deployments making use of new connectivity technologies supporting time sensitive networking (e.g., IEEE TSN and IETF Detnet); and b) implications on VNF and Network Service descriptors and the LCM interfaces when considering low-latency and/or deterministic technologies in mixed operational environments (e.g., MEC and environments where not all network resources can support IEEE TSN/IETF Detnet). Both container and VM-based environments will be considered. The work item will identify relevant use cases and will also delineate a set of possible design options and potential solutions. It will also investigate the impact on the NFV framework and the relevant interfaces, providing a set of recommendations. | ||||||
