Scope and Field
of Application
This work item will take the NFV use cases (as set out in GS NFV001 or its revised version) and show how they are realised on the NFV architecture. In addition, the use cases will be taken to illustrate some specific issues and complexities to achieving the full benefits of NFV which arise within the use cases, including how the benefits can be realised in different deployment and legacy interworking scenarios. In order to cover relevant deployment and legacy interworking scenarios, the scope of the work item covers, as use case actors, entities which adjoin NFV including existing networks, existing services, and existing OSS/BSS. The scope will also include, at a high level agnostic to specific specification or implementation, management processes not currently considered by IFA, for example inventory management and service assurance. The scope of this work item will complement the work of current and proposed work items in IFA and in particular will coordinate with IFA to ensure there is no duplication of work. This coordination will cover in particular IFA work items IFA012 and IFA022. In this way the work item will deliver guidelines on how the NFV architecture can be utilised to its full potential, and also identify challenges which need to be resolved giving recommendations to possible solutions. The deliverable will be informative.
