Scope and Field of Application |
Scope of work to be undertaken: This Work Item aims at providing an architectural framework for use of SRv6 in IP networks. In doing that, this Work Item will present the status of standardization and discuss the technical aspects of employing SRv6 in IP networks. In addition, some operators’ use cases will be discussed, highlighting the degree of adoption of both IPv6 and SRv6 in wired and wireless networks. To this extent, the paper will complement the previous ETSI IPE ISG publication titled “5G Transport over IPv6 and SRv6”, focusing on those technical aspects that were letf open due to non-complete standardization activities at the IETF at the time of writing. New topics such as: use of compressed Segment Identifiers (C-SIDs), multi-Autonomous Systems (multi-AS) networks, migration of the services at the Edge, increased automation through Software Defined Networking (SDN) will be highlighted. The target is to provide operators with a guideline for the implementation of SRv6-based services in their networks. |
