Title NFV Testing VIM Performance Metrics Specification

Scope and Field
of Application
The document will propose general aspects and related metrics for VIM performance evaluation, which can serve as a reference for fair comparison of different implementations of VIM. As a base overhead of VNF related operations, the evaluation can also be used as a reference for telecom operators to optimize their VNF operation and maintenance policies (e.g. deployment schema, auto-scaling threshold).Testing domains considered by this work item currently contain: 1) the efficiency of the operation and management of VM and virtual resources, e.g. the time of VM instantiation, scaling, migration; 2) The effectiveness of the VM deployment and the virtual resource allocation, e.g. the variance of the distribution of the available compute/storage/network resource among all the hosts . The proposed performance metrics are defined according to the functional requirements for VIM described in IFA010. For each metric, the following will be specified: name, parameters, unit of measurement and testing method.
