TSG CN WG2 Terms of Reference

Background

3GPP is a partnership project consisting of several Standardization Development Organizations (SDOs) and is responsible for the specification of the 3rd Generation Mobile System. The 3GPP organization consists a Project Control Group (PCG), responsible for the steering activities within 3GPP and several Technical Specification Groups (TSGs), responsible for the delivery of the technical specifications.

Each TSG is divided into Working Groups to manage the activities within the TSG. The TSG Core Network (TSG-CN) is responsible for the delivery of the stage 2 and stage 3 specifications of the capabilities within the core network (e.g. supplementary services, CAMEL, OSA, GPRS, MAP, Iu Call Control and Mobility Management). TSG-CN is divided into 5 Working Groups, including TSG-CN WG2.

Terms of Reference

3GPP TSG-CN WG2 (CN2) is responsible for the following Core Network features:

• the stage 2 specification of CAMEL (GSM 03.78 for CAMEL phases 1 and 2, and 3GPP TS 23.078 for CAMEL phase 3 or higher) and
• stage 3 specification of CAMEL (GSM 09.78 for CAMEL phases 1 and 2, and 3GPP TS 29.078 for CAMEL phase 3 or higher);

3GPP TSG-CN WG2 (CN2) co-operates mainly with the following working groups:

• 3GPP TSG-SA WG1 (SA1) that defines the requirements for CAMEL in stage 1 specifications (GSM 02.78 for CAMEL phases 1 and 2, and 3GPP TS 22.078 for CAMEL phase 3 or higher). The work of 3GPP TSG-CN WG2 (CN2) is based on the SA1 requirements.
• 3GPP TSG-CN WG4 (CN4) that implements the necessary CAMEL changes to the MAP, basic call handling, SMS and supplementary service specifications within their remit.

In addition, there is co-operation with following working groups:

• 3GPP TSG-CN WG5 (CN5) that specifies OSA interfaces.
• 3GPP TSG-SA WG5 (SA5) that specifies charging functionalities.
• 3GPP TSG-SA WG2 (SA2) that specifies system architecture and GPRS.
