EcmaTC32:
Communication, Networks and Systems Interconnection

According to the co-operation agreement between ETSI and Ecma International, Ecma TC32 acts as the ETSI core competence centre for communications, networks and systems interconnection in the field of private/ corporate telecommunications. This includes architecture, service, protocol, interoperability, management and application aspects of Corporate Telecommunication Networks (CNs). CNs include narrowband and broadband Private Integrated Services Networks (PISNs) and private networks based on the Internet Protocol (IP). In particular the field includes the following:

  • Computer Supported Telecommunications Applications (CSTA)
Task group TC32-TG11 is chartered to
develop and refine the CSTA standard. CSTA specifies Applications Programming Interfaces (APIs) and protocols for monitoring and controlling calls and devices in a communications network. These calls and devices may support various media and can reside in various network environments such as IP, Switched Circuit Networks and mobile networks. CSTA however, abstracts various details of underlying signalling protocols (e.g. SIP/H.323) and networks for the applications.
  • Architecture, service and protocol aspects of narrowband and broadband Private Integrated Services Networks (PISNs)
Task group TC32-TG14 is chartered to maintain Standards and Technical Reports for services and signalling in Private Integrated Services / Corporate Networks (PISNs/CNs).
  • IP-based multimedia communications in a business environment, including interoperability of narrowband and broadband PISNs with IP networks
Task group TC32-TG17 is chartered to develop Standards and Technical Reports for IP-based multimedia communications in a business environment.
  • Near Field Communications.
Task group TC32-TG19 is chartered to
develop Standards and Technical Reports for Near Field Communication Systems, for the realization of simple wireless communication between close coupled devices for network products and consumer equipment.

NOTE: Further to the co-operation agreement, repartition of work between ETSI and Ecma International is overseen by a "Joint ETSI/ Ecma Committee - JEEC" comprised of four representatives from each organization.

Collaboration with other bodies (both inside and outside ETSI)

  • To review and approve draft Standards and Technical Reports prepared by TC32 task groups for submission to the Ecma General Assembly and onwards submission to ETSI, ISO/IEC JTC 1 and other standardization organizations as appropriate.

  • To maintain liaisons with other Ecma TCs working in related fields.

  • To maintain liaisons with, monitor and contribute to the work of ETSI, ISO/IEC JTC 1, ITU-T, IETF, and other international, regional and national standards organizations and consortia, to present Ecma proposals and to comment on their proposals.

  •  To assist non-standards organizations in getting Ecma Standards developed and further processed, depending on TC members' agreement, and active participation from such organizations.

ECMA TC32 Task Groups Core Competencies

TG11 – Computer Supported Telecommunication Applications (CSTA)

  • Interoperability of CSTA and SIP

  • Interoperability of CSTA and Web  (leverage CSTA XML usage with e.g. WSDL/UDDI)

  • CSTA based conferencing for collaboration applications

  • Media control for CSTA

  • CSTA support for non-voice media

.TG14 – Services and signalling

  • Maintenance of QSIG standards.

 TG17 – IP-based multimedia communications

  • Interworking of PISNs and IP networks via a gateway, primarily between QSIG and H.323 and between QSIG and SIP

  • Use of H.323 and SIP in an enterprise environment

  • Connection of PISN components via IP network infrastructures (i.e., QSIG tunnelling)

  • Requirements for IP-based multimedia communication in a corporate network environment, including architectural, identification, mobility, services, protocol, interworking, QoS, security and management aspects.

 TG19 – Near Field Communications

  • Signalling interfaces and protocols for low cost, closely coupled wireless Consumer Electronic (CE) devices

  • Application of Near Field Communications (NFC) specifications

  • RF-interface test procedures for NFC compliant implementations

  • Protocol test methods for NFC compliant implementations

  • Profiling of NFC-standards.
