Why we do it:
One of the main aims of the MTS IP Testing (IPT) group is
to extend and promote the use of ETSI IP-related specifications globally.
Already there is world-wide interest in the work of this committee. TC MTS has a
good range of IP-related test specifications and TTCN code (IPv6, SIP, SIGTRAN,
H.323 etc.). More is in the pipeline, much of which will comprise generic,
reusable TTCN-3 modules (test code). This is especially true of the IPv6 test
specifications.
Test developers may need to access many different documents and files: for
example, PICS, TSS&TP, TTCN-3 modules or TTCN-2 code, TTCN test suites (both
conformance and interoperability), ASN.1, IDL or XML data specifications,
executable code in various languages, references/links to requirements, TCI
adaptations, TRI adaptations, code documentation etc. The purpose of this STF is
to provide a library, or 'one-stop-shop' for MTS IP test specifications where
all these components (where they exist) can easily be accessed and where the
user can get a clear and concise overview of what ETSI provides and what is
relevant to their particular needs.
The library will allow ETSI to capitalise on the potential reusability of TTCN-3
test modules and the promotion of ETSI test specifications. It will also ease
understanding of the TTCN-3 code by the automatic generation of documentation in
html. This will bring ETSI IP-related test specifications on par with what modern
programmers and test engineers expect in terms of accessibility, and program
documentation (TTCN-3 Doc).
- NOTE 1: The TTCN-3 document generation tool (TTCN-3 Doc)
will be provided through voluntary effort from MTS members. Implementation of
this tool is not part of the STF.
- NOTE 2: For ease of use and maximum visibility the
library should be hosted as a website. Creation of an appropriate website will
be done through voluntary effort and with the assistance of the ETSI
Secretariat.
Close coordination is anticipated with other MTS-supervised
STF activities (MTS/EC eEurope 2005 project) and interested users such as IPv6
Forum, SIP Forum members and 3GPP.
Time plan for the work:
We intend to complete our work by December 2005.
