Specialist Task Force 452: Extension of ITS
Conformance Validation Framework with
Specifications of TS 102 867 and TS 102 941
Who we are:
Team Leader: Sebastian Müller, ETSI CTI,
Team Members: William Whyte , SecurityInnovation,
Norbert Bissmeyer, Fraunhofer,
More projects members to be added soon
With the selected team of experts we have representatives from CAMP VSC3,
DRIVE C2X, SAFETY PILOT, simTD and PRESERVE.
The purpose of conformance testing is to determine to what extent a single
implementation of a particular standard conforms to the individual requirements
of that standard and can hence be used for certification schemes. C2C CC has
become observer of this project as it is especially interested in the
maintenance of the ETSI ITS Test Specifications.
What we do:
In 2010 TC ITS started together with ETSI CTI a STF project to produce
conformance test specifications for the V1.1.1 of TC ITS CAM, DENM, BTP, GN and
GN6 protocols (with the exception of CAM V1.2.1). In 2011/2012 a prototype test
system (so called Conformance Validation Framework) was designed, built and
This project is going to produce Security Test Specifications (The list of the
relevant base specifications is
here). The Security Test Specifications are being developed following
the design guidance of the ITS Testing Framework (ETSI
EG 202 798), and will be packaged together with the other existing
modules of the Conformance Validation Framework.
The identified IUTs (Implementations Under Tests) are the EA (Enrolment
Authority), the AA (Authorization Authority) and the ITS-S as depicted below. In
the case of testing EA and AA, this project needs to define a way how the
initial request is sent over a secure comm link.
In the case of sending and receiving data, there are ongoing discussion where to
apply Security within the ITS architecture, i.e. whether to sign CAM and DENMs
and other facility messages, or rather to sign on networking layer. This project
takes this situation into account by testing that the security stack signs data
correctly. It is irrelevant where in the ITS stack this data was generated (i.e.
Facility or Network layer).

Deliverables and Time plan:
The purpose of the work is to assure interoperability of devices produced in
compliance with the TS 102 867 and TS 102 941 standards. This particular work is
to produce the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS), the Test
Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP), the Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and
Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT). In a later phase
(Q1-Q2 2013) it is planned to provide an executable test suite (ETS) integrated
with the existing ITS Conformance Validation Framework.
Similar to previous plugtest events, where the ITS Validation Framework was
provided for conformance tests, the Security Tests could be provided as well.
This project started in September 2012 and runs until mid 2013. Progress reports
will be provided for each ETSI TC ITS meeting within this time period.
