Specialist Task Force 435:

Upgrade to 3GPP Release 9, RCS-e and IMS/EPC Integration in the Automated IMS Testing Framework

Who we are:

Team Leader: Yann Garcia FSCOM yann.garcia@fscom.fr

Team Members: Janek Nikolajev OU Elvior                   janek.nikolajev@elvior.com

Razvan Petre Testing Technologies petre@testingtech.com

Jean-Claude Wattelet Wattelet Telecoms watteletj@voila.fr

What we do:

This STF will update and enhance the existing Automated IMS Testing Framework (deliverable of STF 370 & STF 407) according to the changes from 3GPP Release 9. Production of new interoperability test scripts only concerns integration of IMS/EPC use cases. This STF will synchronize its efforts with STF 434 for integration of TTCN-3 Diameter library.

For more details, see our Terms of Reference

Why we do it:

IMS is a key component in the 3GPP and TISPAN NGN architecture. Although interoperability testing between different IMS core networks is now mainly automated, new features and services have revealed that the existing testing framework should be improved.

Janek Nikolajev and Razvan Petre are independent experts heavily involved in TTCN-3 tools development.

Mr. Wattelet is an excellent expert on TTCN-3. TTCN-3 will be used to specify the Abstract Test Suites (ATS) in line with the ETSI Guide EG 202 798 "ITS Testing Framework".

How we do it:

STF 435 is organized in the following activities:

  • Analysis of test specification TS 186 011-1, -2, 3 and TS 102 901. The result will be improved specification documents (if applicable) used as input to the development of the test suites
  • Analysis of RCS-e specification and feedback with necessary feedbacks with STF 434 team for Diameter developments.
  • Upgrade of the Automated IMS testing framework (ATS, test adapter and codec) according to the changes between 3GPP Release 8 and 3GPP Release 9
  • Adding support of IMS/EPC in the Automated IMS testing framework (ATS, test adapter and codec)
  • Development of Abstract Test Suites in TTCN-3 for IMS/EPC (ATS).
  • Production of document DTR/INT-00060 "User Documentation and IMS Codec and Adapter layer software for IPv6 and 3GPP Release 9”
  • Upgrade of technical specifications TS 186 011-1, -2, 3 according to the changes between 3GPP Release 8 and 3GPP Release 9
  • Upgrade of technical specifications TS 102 901 according to the changes between 3GPP Release 8 and 3GPP Release 9
  • Processing of feedback from stakeholders.

The work will be done partly in sessions, e.g. at the premises of ETSI in Sophia Antipolis, or as homework activities using also Internet Meeting Tools as skype to discuss and exchange ideas between the STF members.

Deliverables:

STF 435 will develop / amend the following deliverables:

  • DTR/INT-00060 : "User Documentation and IMS Codec and Adapter layer software for IPv6 and 3GPP Release 9"
  • TS 186 011-1 : "IMS Network Testing (INT); IMS NNI Interoperability Test Specifications;Part 1: Test Purposes for IMS NNI Interoperability"
  • TS 186 011-2 : "IMS Network Testing (INT); IMS NNI Interoperability Test Specifications; Part 2: Test Descriptions for IMS NNI Interoperability"
  • TS 186 011-3 : "IMS Network Testing (INT); IMS NNI Interoperability Test Specifications; Part 3: Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT) "
  • TS 102 901 : "IMS Network Testing (INT);IMS NNI Interoperability Test Specifications; IMS NNI interoperability test descriptions for RCS"
  • DTR/INT-00063 (TS xxxx xxx): "Abstract Test Suite for IMS & EPC Interoperability"
