Why we do it:

Electronic signatures are being implemented in various countries and in various business domains, without any consistency in the adoption of fields and field values of ETSI TS 101 733 and of ETSI TS 101 903.

A proliferation of interpretations based upon ‘local’ needs (sometimes national, sometimes industry-sector driven) is observed to be leading to situations where the recognition and authentication of signatures is requiring manual resolution which itself demands disproportionate delays and also requiring a high level of technical expertise.

A furtherance of this proliferation can only lead to a lack of interoperability, the processing overheads of which deny business the potential efficacies which can be derived from automated processing which e-business offers. This lack of interoperability would also seriously jeopardise all the efforts so far performed by ETSI ESI.

Time plan for the work:

We intend to complete our work by December 2006.
